Glen Campbell In Concert - Nashville, TN - Ryman Auditorium - 11/30/2011
Written by James Downing
I have told the story here on Concert Blast about how my dad brought home a record player one day when I was about seven years old. That day changed my life forever and opened the world of music up to me. My mom was a big country music fan and would buy many records. She would sit in my bedroom with me and we would listen to many of them. Loretta Lynn, Bing Crosby, Donna Fargo and the list goes on and on. There was one album that she bought that I really liked and that was a Glen Campbell album. My favorite song off that album was called “Gentle On My Mind”. I soon discovered that this guy had his own tv show each week and I would watch it everytime it came on. As I grew up and started listening to rock and roll music, Glen Campbell’s music remained on my record player along side Alice Cooper, The Who, Kiss and all of the other bands that I listened to.

It was the first of two farewell Nashville, TN concerts from Glen Campbell at the historic Ryman Auditorium. James Downing of Concert Blast wanted to be there to capture the end of his career and an important era in country music, so he purchased a ticket as soon as they went on sale and received an excellent seat to the November 30, 2011 show. A seat close enough to capture great photos of the lengendary performer.

The Raconteurs In Concert
Posted on 10/05/2011

Nashville, The Ryman, The Raconteurs. All three share the commonality of legendary status, and boast of a mix of country, blues and rock. Although The Raconteurs formed in 2005, and have released only two albums (Broken Boy Soldiers and Consolers of the Lonely), their fan base has categorized them into an obscure, yet popular act. The band consists of Jack White (Vocals, guitar, piano), Brendan Benson (Vocals, guitar), Patrick Keeler (Drums), and Jack Lawrence (Bass).

On Thursday, November 11th, Mike Arnold and James Downing of Concert Blast reviewed the Styx concert at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN as they made a stop on their Grand Illusion / Pieces Of Eight tour.
This was a different and unique concert as Styx performed two sets and an encore. Set one was nothing but the entire Grand Illusion album in order and set two included only the Pieces of Eight album in order.

Sheryl Crow - In Concert Nashville, TN
Written by James Downing
If you remember a few months ago, I reviewed my less than pleasurable experience seeing Sheryl Crow at The River Bend Music Fest in Chattanooga, TN. It wasn’t that Sheryl was bad, she was great, but what I was told was a front row seat was actually a seat quite a ways back from the stage behind a general admission area and the band was on a stage that was at least 40 feet high. Now for a casual music fan, that would have been satisfactory, but I am not your casual music fan. When I go to a show I like to be as close to the stage as possible, especially when it comes to a favorite of mine like Sheryl Crow. I was glad that I had the chance to see her perform several shows on this tour because the other shows that I attended more than made up for the sour taste that was left in my mouth after the Chattanooga show.

One of Concert Blast’s favorite band, Train, performed in Nashville, TN at the Ryman Auditorium on Good Friday, April 2nd, 2010 and the guys were there to enjoy the show while writing the concert review for a podcast.

On this particular night, all 4 members of the Concert Blast team were together to start the podcast, but on the concert review portion of the podcast, James Downing had a Meet & Greet VIP Pass to meet the band members after the show while Mike, Brian, and Tom recorded the concert review.

This is the best setlist and most energetic performance the guys had seen Train perform, although it wasn’t as energetic as the Pat Monahan Solo Tour.

Enjoy the Train Concert Review!

What do you get when one of rock and roll’s best guitarist, mix that with a little rock-a-billy and throw in some Christmas cheer for good measure? You get the annual Brian Setzer Christmas Extravaganza. On Wednesday, Dec. 9th 2009, Brian Setzer and company played to a completely sold out Ryman Auditorium and boy did the concert goers get their money’s worth. The stage was decorated with Santas, Wooden Soldiers, Christmas Trees and wrapped gifts. This is the 7th year that this show has toured during the Christmas season. And judging from the reaction of the crowd he will be doing it for many years to come. They loved it.

Roger Daltrey Concert Review, Ryman Auditorium, Nashville, TN – Friday October 30, 2009
Written By James Downing
Many legends have graced the stage of the Ryman Auditorium over the years. On Oct 30, 2009 another name was added to that list. Roger Daltrey, lead singer of The Who made a stop in Nashville on his “Use It Or Lose It Tour.” It was the biggest crowd that I had seen at The Ryman in a while. There were Who fans from all over. I talked to many who drove many miles to witness Roger at this world famous venue.
Around 9pm the lights dimmed and out walked Roger and his band. He approached his mic and said hello and told the crowd what an honor it was to be playing at the Ryman where one of his heroes, Johnny Cash, had played many times. He said he wanted to do this tour to get his butt out from in front of the TV set and to keep his voice in good shape for the up coming Who Tour next year.
