The guys start the day by interviewing fans of the music festival and having a fun conversation with Percy, an employee of Rendezvous for 40 years.  Percy takes us down memory lane as he discussed the former Presidents and many stars who have attended the restaurant.

They ate a wonderful meal before heading to the Beale Street Music Festival while to enjoy the various genres of music from Colbie Caillat, Jerry Lee Lewis, Seether, Michael McDonald, along with Hall and Oates. Continue Reading…

The guys were pleased to be back together covering one of their favorite concert festivals.  It seems to rain at least one day every year of the festival, but the skies were clear during most of the festival times, although there were many storms before and after.  One exception was when tornado warnings came  through Memphis on Saturday night and the headliners could not perform (more on this during Saturday’s coverage – Part 2).  On this podcast we cover only the Friday night events.

The B52s performed their fun-time dance party-rock that kicked off  the fun times at their stage.  Afterwards the stage headliner, Goo Goo Dolls, performed a full set with all their hits, several new tunes, and an encore of Supertramp’s “Give A Little Bit.”

It was a Rowdy Friday night in Nashville, TN at the Bridgestone Arena.  Hank Williams Jr. led the charge as Jamey Johnson, Eric Church, and The Grascals followed.  The crowd at the arena was full of energy and ready for fun.

            The Grascals

The Grascals performed a free concert outside on the plaza for the attendees before the doors opened.  The Grascals were well received on the outside as well as on the inside of the arena as they opened the show.  After their set they took time to have a short conversation with Mike Arnold and Brian Hasbrook who were there covering the show.   Mike and Brian missed Eric Church’s performance due to the backstage visit, but they had such a good time it was worth it.

Jamey Johnson had the crowd on their feet throughout the entire set and when Hank Jr took the stage, the crowd turned it up another notch as Bocephus rallied his troops throughout the evening with his hits, sing-alongs and many musical surprises.

Special Thanks to Martha Moore from So Much Moore Media for setting up the interview with The Grascals and for arranging the concert review.

In the 70′s one thing was rare in rock and roll. That was a rock band that was fronted by a woman. You had the Carly Simons and the Carole Kings but there just wasn’t that many “rocker chicks” making music in the 70′s. That was until 1975 when two sisters from Seattle, Washington released the album “Dreamboat Annie”. The record was a huge hit and was heard blasting out of the speakers of any rock station not only in America, but all over the world. The two sisters were Ann and Nancy Wilson. They followed up “Dreamboat Annie” with “Magazine”, “Little Queen”, “Dog & Butterfly” and many more. Each album spawned hit single after hit single. The hits kept coming and the band had even more success in the 80′s.

It was St. Patrick’s Day and the Wildhorse Saloon served up a great party for about 1,500 rock music fans while George Thorogood and the Destroyers provided the entertainment, which thrilled everyone in attendance.  Mike Arnold, Brian Hasbrook, and James Downing were there to cover the show (Tom Thompson was sick).

There were technical difficulties while recording at the venue, so Mike later recorded a podcast of the concert review.  Click the link below to download (right click-Save Target As…) or listen to the podcast online.

What do you get when one of rock and roll’s best guitarist, mix that with a little rock-a-billy and throw in some Christmas cheer for good measure?  You get the annual Brian Setzer Christmas Extravaganza.  On Wednesday, Dec. 9th 2009, Brian Setzer and company played to a completely sold out Ryman Auditorium and boy did the concert goers get their money’s worth.  The stage was decorated with Santas, Wooden Soldiers, Christmas Trees and wrapped gifts.  This is the 7th year that this show has toured during the Christmas season.  And judging from the reaction of the crowd he will be doing it for many years to come.  They loved it.

Roger Daltrey Concert Review, Ryman Auditorium, Nashville, TN – Friday October 30, 2009

                                Written By James Downing

Many legends have graced the stage of the Ryman Auditorium over the years. On Oct 30, 2009 another name was added to that list. Roger Daltrey, lead singer of The Who made a stop in Nashville on his “Use It Or Lose It Tour.”  It was the biggest crowd that I had seen at The Ryman in a while. There were Who fans from all over. I talked to many who drove many miles to witness Roger at this world famous venue.

Around 9pm the lights dimmed and out walked Roger and his band. He approached his mic and said hello and told the crowd what an honor it was to be playing at the Ryman where one of his heroes, Johnny Cash, had played many times. He said he wanted to do this tour to get his butt out from in front of the TV set and to keep his voice in good shape for the up coming Who Tour next year.

KISS, the hardest working band in the world, hit the stage Wednesday, October 28th, 2009, at the Sommet Center, (the big arena) in Nashville, TN with opening act, Buckcherry, as they continued on their KISS Alive 35 tour across the world.  I first saw KISS as they toured for their first album and have seen them in concert about twelve times.

Buckcherry slowly warmed the crowd as most patrons waited to arrive after their set.  Usually their set is full of profanity, but they kept it fairly tame until their last song of the night.

A Summer Weekend With Rick Springfield

                                        Submitted By James Downing

What do you think of when you hear the name Rick Springfield? Soap opera star? Bubble gum rock? Teeny bopper rock? Well, you might think these things about him if you have never seen him live. If you have seen him live you will think rock star. The man hits the stage with so much energy and excitement that you have to wonder how he does it. After all, he was about to  turn 60 years young.

I had made plans with two very good friends of mine, Julie and Sue, to take a weekend road trip to check out these two shows. We all met up in Memphis, TN and headed out for the drive to Tunica, MS. I had never been to this town before and was looking forward to it.
