Interview – Lawrence Gowan of Styx (BLOG)

Here’s a Concert Blast interview with Lawrence Gowan of Styx that Mike Arnold conducted in November, 2009.  Many Styx fans continue to ask about Dennis DeYoung, not knowing that Dennis hadn’t been in the band for over 10 years.  Canada’s Lawrence Gowan has stepped in and has done an excellent job!

On November 15 2009, the Can’t Stop Rocking Tour made its stop in Nashville, TN.  Mike Arnold had been communicating with Styx’s publicists and management about a possible interview with their keyboardist/lead singer, Lawrence Gowan.  On the day of the show, their schedule became much tighter as Styx was invited to sing the National Anthem before the Tennessee Titans football game.  Since they were under such time restraints, Mike and Lawrence decided to conduct their interview through email.

For those who aren’t familiar with the rocker, enjoying learning a little about Lawrence.

KISS Concert Review – Alive 35 Tour – Nashville, TN – 10/28/2009 (BLOG)

KISS, the hardest working band in the world, hit the stage Wednesday, October 28th, 2009, at the Sommet Center, (the big arena) in Nashville, TN with opening act, Buckcherry, as they continued on their KISS Alive 35 tour across the world.  I first saw KISS as they toured for their first album and have seen them in concert about twelve times.

Buckcherry slowly warmed the crowd as most patrons waited to arrive after their set.  Usually their set is full of profanity, but they kept it fairly tame until their last song of the night.

Reflections on the Life and Death of Michael Jackson (BLOG)

                            Written by Mike Arnold

There are times in our lives when we will always remember where we were and what we were doing as we heard major news. Maybe it was when we heard the news of O.J. Simpson being accused of murder or the jury’s verdict of “Not Guilty”. Maybe it was major news in your family, a riot in your town, America being involved in war, or the 911 tragedy as the twin towers in New York City came crumbling down. One day I’ve always remembered was hearing the news about the death of Elvis Presley. I remember being at work and hearing the news from the guys on the night shift coming in to relieve us and telling us about the tragedy. It was unbelievable that the King of Rock could die so young. I also remember watching Monday night football with my wife Sandra as Howard Cosell tells the American football audience that John Lennon had just been shot and killed in New York City outside his apartment. Now another day I’ll probably remember is today, Thursday June 25th 2009, the day I heard the news of the death of Michael Jackson.

I first heard of Michael Jackson as a child listening to the Jackson Five. At that time it was The Jackson Five and The Osmond’s selling millions of records and constantly being played on the radio. Just as all child bands, the artists grow up and so do the fans. I didn’t think either band had a future in the mainstream music business as adults. Michael Jackson proved me to be  severely wrong. I remember being at a disco in the 70’s when I first heard “Rock With You” and “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough”. I couldn’t believe the music Michael Jackson was creating. Even at that point in my life I believed that Michael’s solo career would be short lived. Then he proved me wrong again!

                                Written by Mike Arnold

On Friday night, May 22nd, 2009, The Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, TN brought one of the most talented bands still playing Classic Rock music today back to Nashville, Starship featuring Mickey Thomas. On this particular night, Starship had a special guest performing with them, Bobby Kimball of Toto, and one surprised guest that was later announced in the show. With all these artists playing the in the same set meant a night of nothing but classic rock hits.

As the house lights went down and the band members took the stage, the loud, clear voice of Mickey Thomas belted over the PA speakers, “Hey Everybody!” The band immediately began the opening notes of “Find Your Way Back”. The band continued the set without hesitation or saying anything with, “No Way Out”.
