On this day we covered ZZ Top, The Black Keys, Patti Smith, Jerry Lee Lewis, Dwight Yoakam, and Gavin DeGraw. Saturday started on a great note as we have always started for many years… sleeping in late and getting a late lunch at the world’s famous barbeque ribs restaurant, Charlie Vergos’ Rendezvous! They have sponsored our Saturday coverage for years and this year they asked us to return next year. We thank both sponsors that helped make these trips possible, Rendezvous and The Best Around Food Concessions!
Piano expert/singer/songwriter Elton John returned to Nashville, TN to excite his fans of young and old to a greatest hits concert on 4/5/2013. Elton used to visit Nashville on every tour that reached the Southeast, but it has been a while since he's visited the Music City. Although Concert Blast wasn't granted concert review passes for this show, Elton's management did grant us a photo pass. Our Concert Blast friend (and excellent photographer) Samantha Shrader took on the duties of helping us out for the night. Check out her photos!

It was that time of the year again when lovers exchange gifts and/or cards and Rick Springfield rolls into Nashville, TN for his annual Wildhorse Saloon Valentine's Day performance. Rick Springfield has made a habit to perform in Nashville this time every year, as he told us, "Because the chicks are hot!" Let me say that the 63 year young Rick Springfield is also on fire with his rock n' roll (and at times hard rock) performance. Rick Springfield put on a 90 minute set consisting of his hits from the 80s, his favorite cover songs, as well as many tunes from his latest album, "Songs for the End of the World". Rick said the world didn't end in December 2012 like some predicted, but if it would have, his new album would have been a great soundtrack for it. In fact the last time The Who performed in Middle TN was when they had the original lineup including Keith Moon and John Entwistle. That was “The Who By Numbers” tour in the mid 1970’s. Today there are only two original members still living and they are still performing with the energy level and playing ability they’ve always had, even though Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend are now in their late 60s. The Who is currently on tour celebrating the anniversary of the Quadrophenia album. Brian Hasbrook and Mike Arnold were looking forward to seeing The Who again, but preferred a greatest hits show instead of a album concept show. We really didn’t know who enjoyed this show more, the fans or Tommy Shaw getting to perform on the former Grand Ole Opry stage again. This show was mostly a greatest hits concert with a few of the older FM album cuts thrown in for fun (as it should be). Enjoy Mike Arnold’s concert review as he takes you through the set list to describe Styx’s Nashville concert.

Back in the late 1960s Elvis Presley started a trend in Las Vegas that still continues today, rock music at casinos. This trend seemed to work for the casino business, although I personally never understood the mix. If you are visiting a casino, it seems to me that music would be the last thing on your mind, unless you are celebrating a huge payoff! If I wanted to attend a concert at a casino, gambling would be the last thing on my mind, but I’m not a gambler.

Grand Funk hasn't performed in Nashville since early in this century, but in the past they have thrilled their fans with concerts many times. With Mark Farner out of the picture these days, Max Carl on guitar /vocals and former KISS lead guitarist Bruce Kulick has filled the gap, and have done it very well. Mike Arnold, with special guest host, Concert Blast #1 fan, Vivian Johnson, were on hand to review this concert song by song and supply many live clips of this night for the podcast. Enjoy this Concert Review (audio podcast and written blog) and the special sing along at the end of the podcast with the original Concert Blast staff and GFR’s original drummer, Don Brewer!

It was Sunday July 29th when Creed rolled in to Nashville, TN to thrill their fans once again. In the past they performed at our former large amphitheatre and our huge arena, but this time around they performed at the intimate Ryman Auditorium. They moved from 18,000 seat venues to a 2,300 seat venue… and it wasn’t close to a sellout. The balcony was at 90% capacity with the floor about 60%. Mike Arnold and Tom Thompson were on hand for this night of hard rock music as Mike wrote the concert review… ENJOY!

Creed returned to the Music City with openers Like A Storm and Eve To Adam. This was a night of high energy hard rock. Mike Arnold and Tom Thompson was on hand for this event, but this post gives all the credit to our Concert Blast friend, Samantha (Sam) Shrader as she took the concert photos of Creed. Several Nashville based musicians contributed their time, energy, and talent to provide a way for the family of Perry Baggs to be able to give his body a proper burial. Over 500 rock music fans and friends of Perry Baggs packed Nashville's historic rock music club, the Exit In, by contibuting $20 for the admission ticket to help with this cause and to have a fun time remembering the music and life of Perry Baggs.
THE WHO, one of rock’s legendary and defining bands, have announced a major North American arena tour where they’ll perform their iconic 1973 double album QUADROPHENIA in its entirety, along with a selection of WHO classics. The critically acclaimed QUADROPHENIA marked the British band’s second rock opera (after Tommy), raised the bar for rock albums as an art form and hit #2 on the U.S. Billboard album chart. Founding members ROGER DALTREY and PETE TOWNSHEND will be joined by Zak Starkey (drums), Pino Palladino (bass), Simon Townshend (guitar/backing vocals), Chris Stainton (keyboards), Loren Gold (keyboards/backing vocals) and Frank Simes (musical director, keyboards/backing vocals).
