A SNEAK PEEK FROM CHAPTER 5
THE BIG BREAKS

THE WILDHORSE SALOON
The first time we attended a rock concert at The Wildhorse Saloon was to review The Romantics concert and to interview Wally Palmer, their lead singer. The show was great and the Romantics couldn’t have been any nicer to us.

That night we met the new General Manager of the Wildhorse Saloon, Mike Davis. Mike is a long time classic rock fan, a music fan in general, and a business minded professional. Mike listened to Concert Blast and loved it. In fact, he liked it so much that he wanted us to review all the concerts at the Wildhorse Saloon.

We would get invitations to shows that we didn’t usually cover. He suggested for us to broaden our music genre. He had a good point and we took his suggestion on occasion. Because of our relationship with Mike Davis, he made a point for his staff to know who we were and to cater to us. His managers and lead staff would make sure we were comfortable, and the security staff would open doors for us and always move us to the front of the line. In fact, one manager gave me the security code to the lock on the backstage door entrance so we could have backstage access anytime we wanted. After all, The Wildhorse Saloon was getting free publicity all over the world. We would receive emails from various countries saying they wanted to visit Nashville, TN and go to the Wildhorse Saloon.

Mike Davis was very smart in catering to us. People would travel in from all over the country to attend a Wildhorse Saloon concert. Not only did he benefit, we did as well. This relationship kept us from requesting for passes for each concert that came to town, but we did have to request permission to take photos. We couldn’t have asked for a better relationship with anyone. Mike Davis is no longer employed with the Wildhorse Saloon. He now owns and operates a concert promotions company that produces concerts throughout the southeast.
