    BandSwap

Meet BandSwap – a multi- city music event in its second year featuring bands from eight different cities including Fort Collins, CO; Denver, CO; Lafayette, LA; Portland, OR and Nashville swapping talent with each other in their respective cities. It’s all in the name of supporting independent musicians, local tourism and civic cultural “exports.” The event will take place in late September and early October. Please Continue to read about this wonderful idea that local/regional bands can do to help gain more fans!

It’s one of the only touring festivals of its kind in the US that is a result of the efforts of conventions/visitors bureaus and venues, bands and promoters and it’s a unique idea because…

*Local government has been increasing contributions to supporting local arts by seeing it as a potential income source.
*The UK, Canada and Sweden have long supported musical arts via civic grants; at last the United States is catching up with the help of a visionary music nonprofit based in Fort Collins, Colorado called SpokesBUZZ (www.spokesbuzz.org).
*BandSwap nourishes new talent and civic pride by marrying music with travel and tourism.
*BandSwap encourages cities and artists to showcase their unique voices with each other.
*Fort Collins aims to follow in the footsteps of cities like Austin, Texas and New Orleans, Louisiana, both of which leverage their diverse and rich musical heritage, city culture and talent to draw visitors from around the world.

    FORT COLLINS, CO
SpokesBUZZa Fort Collins, CO - based music nonprofit, announces the 2nd annual BandSwap, an initiative designed to create and grow relationships between Fort Collins’ thriving independent musicians with like-minded artists in cities around the US. This year’s BandSwap cities include Portland, OR; Chico, CA; Madison, WI; Nashville, TN; Denver, CO; Lafayette, LA; and Asheville, NC.

The event is scheduled for the last two weekends in September and pairs a Fort Collins band with a band from each host city. All the bands (from Fort Collins and the host cities) will return to Colorado at the beginning of October for a full weekend music extravaganza.

This year’s BandSwap schedule includes the following Fort Collins artists and their city-paired partners:

9/20 DENVER, CO: The Echo Chamber (w/ The Epilogues) @ The Hi-Dive
9/20 PORTLAND, OR: Musketeer Gripweed (w/ The Quick and Easy Boys) @ Alberta Rose
9/21 CHICO, CA: The Lindsey O’Brien Band (w/ Big Mo and the Full Moon Band) @ Big Room at Sierra Nevada
9/22 MADISON, WI: Common Anomaly (w/Sexy Ester) @ High Noon
9/24 NASHVILLE, TN: Constitution (w/ Mike Willis and The Cumberland Collective) @ Belcourt Taps

9/28 ASHEVILLE, NC: The Yawpers (w/TBA) @ Grey Eagle
10/4 through 10/6 FORT COLLINS and DENVER: GRAND FINALE HOMECOMING

The concept behind BandSwap is to take budding, popular bands from Fort Collins and pair them with bands of the same caliber in other cities, promoting concerts at like-minded, supportive venues in those host cities and reciprocating with shows in Fort Collins, CO. Support comes from all levels of the community including venues, local government, arts organizations and non-profits; all supporting independent music and musicians and all looking at new and innovative ways to promote their cities and the music which helps make them culturally unique.

With bands looking to take advantage of new touring opportunities and cities seeking new and creative ways to promote their unique cultural offerings to visitors, SpokesBUZZ sees BandSwap as a revolutionary way to give a leg up to bands who are ready to tour nationally while promoting the singular musical and cultural aspects of Fort Collins each city invested on the same scale.

“Traditional touring is linear and very slow to grow,” notes SpokesBUZZ/BandSwap founder Dani Grant. “The theory behind BandSwap is to build reciprocity and strong relationships with bands, venues, civic partners, music industry professionals and local artist support organizations. That reciprocity helps create a network that can grow fan bases for artists and spread some civic pride at the same time.”
